Columbia Public School District (CPS) is seeking a bids for the sale of a roughly 20 ft.by 16ft.4in. Accessory Dwelling Unit or tiny house/outbuilding. The unit was built by the Geometry in Construction class at Battle High School.

The tiny house is roughly a 320 sq. ft. energy efficient built home. House has one bedroom, one full bath and a combined living room and kitchen . House has storm windows, storm door and low maintenance siding.

The home is currently on a trailer, not owned by the District, that it must be removed from and not available for transport usage. However, bidders have the option to contact the owner of the trailer, Tom Smith, A&S Transport, at 573-673-8899 to obtain a price for transport.

It is understood and agreed that there shall be no warranties, expressed or implied, as to the condition, fitness for a particular use and/or warranty or merchantability of the items. This unit will be sold on an “As Is” and “Where Is” basis.

A $500 refundable will be required. The refundable deposit shall be a separate transaction from the purchase price, in the form of a cashier’s check made payable to Columbia Public Schools, sent to: Columbia Public Schools -Purchasing Department, 1818 W. Worley St., Columbia, MO 65203. The refundable deposit must be received by the District within 7 working days of award of the bid or the item will be forfeited and resold. The check will be returned upon the following condition being fully met: Satisfactory removal by the specified date.

The winning bidder will be responsible to provide their own trailer to move unit. It is the responsibility of the buyer to coordinate removal and they will be the sole point of contact with the District. The District will not work with third parties. Removal can begin as early as March 6, 2020 but must be completed by March 20, 2020. A certificate of insurance is to be furnished prior to work proceeding. The purchaser further understands that there is not a title to the property. All items must be removed within the time period specified. The Buyer will make all arrangements and perform all work necessary, including packing, loading and transportation of the property. All cost associated with the pickup is the responsibility of bidder. Property may be removed between the hours of 9:00a.m. and 3:00p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays unless noted otherwise in the asset description. A daily storage fee of $10.00 may be charged for any item not removed within the removal period.

Transfer of ownership occurs once the unit has been removed from the District.

Please note: a mover went out to measure the unit and came up with the following dimensions: 17'4" Wide (eave to eave) 28' deep 16' tall He said this will require special permits to move.

Q: why is this being relisted. was there something wrong with the building making it undesirable? (2/20/20 6:15 PM)
A: It is being relisted because the original posting stated 16ft. wide (our dimensions were based on the original building drawings). The previous winning bidder had measured and said it was actually 16'4", and that he could not longer legally move it himself (he would have had to hire a moving company and incur additional costs). Due to the error on our part, we decided the fairest solution was to relist with the updated information. This is also why we are encouraging bidders to visit the site and measure the unit or to reach out to the owner of the trailer for a transportation quote, as they are familiar with the unit and moving requirements. A: We had three inspections. The first inspection was a rough framing, electrical and rough plumbing, and after we closed in the walls. We work with an engineer to ensure proper insulation. (2/27/20 9:47 AM)
